Mr. Branson called yesterday to say that he
had completed his visits to Messrs. Griffiths, and had
formed certain conclusions which he was ready to put
in writing. He asked whether we wished him to under-
take any further visits, e.g. to the London Metal
Exchange authorities, before he sent in a report. I
rang up the Secretary of the London Metal Exchange
and agreed with them and Mr. Branson that he should
go and see them in the first week in October, by
which time Mr. Lambert, the Secretary of the Exchange
will have returned from holiday. Thereafter
Mr. Branson will send in his report to us which we
will communicate to the Hong Kong Government, but
as he explained, any action by the Colonial
authorities to remedy the present risks of faulty
assays will have to await his return at the end of
the year.
